Mario Luigi Splash

For my vfx class to get familiar with HoudiniFX liquid simulations we had to do a liquid simulation. I decided to do a Mario Luigi paintball tribute. The tricky part of this simulation was turning an object from a solid to a liquid. In order to achieve the desired effect, I created to different simulation. First, I had the solid objects thrown at the wall. I then had them disappear right before they collided with the wall. Next I had liquid versions of the object instantiate on the frame before each of the collisions. The eye is tricked into think that the objects are the same before and after the swap. It turned out pretty good. If I were to take this further, I would have the ‘paints’ mix with each other on contact.
